Quick answer
Business Loan Hotline is staffed 9am to 5pm Melbourne time on weekdays. In the Northern Territory, which uses a half-hour time zone and no daylight saving, that's 8:30am to 4:30pm from early April to early October, and 7:30am to 3:30pm from early October to early April. The call planner converts it for any day and skips Victorian public holidays.

Our line on a Territory clock
The Northern Territory runs on Australian Central Standard Time, half an hour behind the eastern states, and it doesn’t use daylight saving. Our line follows Melbourne business hours, 9am to 5pm on weekdays. Here’s what that means in the NT:
| Period (2026–27) | Gap to Melbourne | Our line in NT time |
|---|---|---|
| Now until Saturday 3 October 2026 | 30 minutes behind | 8:30am – 4:30pm |
| Sunday 4 October 2026 to Saturday 3 April 2027 | 90 minutes behind | 7:30am – 3:30pm |
| From Sunday 4 April 2027 | 30 minutes behind | 8:30am – 4:30pm |
The shift happens because Victoria moves to daylight saving on Sunday 4 October 2026 and back on Sunday 4 April 2027, while the Territory stays put. Our call planner does the maths for any day.
Best time to ring from the Territory
Early starts suit the Top End. From October to April our line opens at 7:30am Darwin time, which many owners find handy: a call before the heat of the day and before customers arrive.
Mid-morning is the all-rounder. Between about 9am and noon NT time, you’re comfortably inside our window year-round.
Watch the afternoon in summer. From October to April we close at 3:30pm Territory time. A call at 4pm in December is 5:30pm in Melbourne.
If your day doesn’t line up with ours, or you’re somewhere with patchy reception, send the 60-second enquiry and tell us the best time and number to reach you.
Remote locations and reception
The Territory is big and phone coverage isn’t everywhere. If you’re on a station, a remote community or a work site with poor reception:
- Give us a landline or a time you’ll be in coverage when you enquire.
- Expect a missed call or two and ring back on 03 4059 1829 when you can. Our page on call-backs explains what happens if you miss us.
- Consider starting with the form, so the specialist has your basics before you speak.
What comes up on calls from the NT
The structure of the call is the same as anywhere. Our first-minute script still applies. A few Territory-specific points are worth raising early.
Property location. For property-secured loans, which run from $20,000 to $5,000,000, lenders pay close attention to where the property is. Darwin and Palmerston properties are treated differently from Alice Springs, Katherine or remote properties. Say where it is and what type it is. See describing property as security.
Seasonal income. Tourism, pastoral, fishing and construction businesses in the Territory often have strong dry-season months and quieter wet-season ones. Describe the pattern so it’s read correctly in your statements.
Government and contract work. If your income depends on government contracts or project work, say who pays and on what terms. It helps the specialist understand gaps between payments.
State and territory taxes. The Territory Revenue Office administers Territory taxes, royalties and grants, including payroll tax and stamp duty. If one of those bills is part of why you’re calling, mention which and when it’s due.
Public holidays
Our line follows Victorian public holidays. On a Territory-only public holiday, such as Picnic Day, our line may be open. On a Victorian holiday, including Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 3 November 2026, it’s closed. The call planner accounts for this automatically.
Free business help in the NT
Business NT is the Northern Territory Government’s business support portal. It offers Territory Business Advisors for consultations, Territory Business Centres for in-person help, information on grants and programs, and dedicated programs for Aboriginal businesses and start-ups. For owners in financial difficulty, the national Small Business Debt Helpline (1800 413 828) provides free financial counselling.
A Territory example
A Darwin fishing charter business needs around $60k to replace an outboard before the dry-season bookings ramp up. The owner rings at 8:40am Darwin time in June. They explain that the business has traded six years, that wet-season months bring in about a third of dry-season months, and that they don’t own property. The specialist talks through unsecured options sized on their turnover and what statements would be needed.
Illustrative example only.
Before you ring from the NT
The Territory’s distances mean it’s worth getting the most out of each call. Before you ring, have:
- A clear purpose and amount. “A replacement outboard, about $60k, before the end of April.”
- Your trading pattern. Dry-season and wet-season months, roughly how different they are, and when things pick up.
- Your ABN, structure and time trading.
- Existing finance, including any vehicle or equipment loans, which are common for Territory businesses.
- Any ATO position, including whether lodgements are current.
- Property details, if relevant: location, type, owners and what’s owing.
If you work across a large area, or move between Darwin and remote sites, tell us where you’re most likely to be reachable and when. It’s frustrating for everyone when a call-back lands just as you drive out of range.
Some Territory owners also run businesses that depend on government contracts or grant-funded programs. If that’s you, explain the contract, the payment terms and when the next payment is due. It helps the specialist understand the gap you’re trying to bridge. And if you’ve had a knock-back from a bank because of location or industry, see what to say when another lender said no; different lenders see the Territory differently.
Call from the Territory
Check today’s window on the call planner, then ring 03 4059 1829. Or leave your details for a call-back at a time and number that work. There’s no credit check when you first enquire, your details stay with one team, and a real specialist looks at your situation, remote or not. Please tell us where you are and give accurate figures, so we can match you properly from the first conversation.

Why is the NT half an hour different?
