Quick answer

For almost all of New South Wales, Business Loan Hotline is open 9am to 5pm Sydney time, Monday to Friday, all year, because NSW and Victoria share a time zone and change for daylight saving on the same dates. The exception is Broken Hill and the far west, which run on South Australian time, so our line is open 8:30am to 4:30pm there. The line is closed on Victorian public holidays.

Key points

  • Sydney and most of NSW share Melbourne's time all year: 9am–5pm.
  • Broken Hill runs on South Australian time: 8:30am–4:30pm.
  • Daylight saving 2026–27: from 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 to 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027.
  • Our line follows Victorian public holidays, not NSW ones.

Same clock, almost everywhere

New South Wales and Victoria are on the same time zone, and both change for daylight saving on the same Sundays. So for Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Central Coast and nearly all of regional NSW, our line is simply 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, all year.

The NSW Government’s daylight saving dates for 2026–27:

  • Starts: 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026, when clocks move forward to 3am.
  • Ends: 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027, when clocks move back to 2am.

Victoria changes at the same moments, so nothing shifts for you.

The Broken Hill exception

Broken Hill and the surrounding far west run on South Australian (central) time, half an hour behind Sydney all year. For callers there, our line is open 8:30am to 4:30pm local time. The call planner has a Broken Hill option so it converts correctly. See South Australia for more on central time.

What comes up on calls from NSW

The call follows the same pattern as anywhere else; our first-minute script covers the opening. A few NSW themes come up often.

Sydney property. Many Sydney owners have significant equity in their homes or commercial premises. For property-secured business loans from $20,000 to $5,000,000, tell us the type, location, owners, rough value and what’s owing. Our page on describing property as security shows how in a sentence or two.

State taxes and duties. Revenue NSW collects taxes, duties and levies for the state, including payroll tax and land tax. If a NSW tax bill is part of why you’re calling, say which one and when it’s due.

Regional seasons. Agriculture in the Riverina and New England, tourism on the coasts and in the Snowy Mountains, and mining in the Hunter and the west all have their own rhythms. Describe your pattern so your statements are read correctly.

Cross-border businesses. Albury–Wodonga and the Murray towns often straddle Victoria and NSW. Tell us where the business operates, where the property is, and which state’s taxes apply.

Public holidays

Our line follows Victorian public holidays. NSW has some holidays Victoria doesn’t, and the reverse is also true. So:

  • On a holiday that applies in NSW but not in Victoria, our line may be open.
  • On a Victorian holiday, such as Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 3 November 2026, our line is closed even though Sydney is working.

The call planner handles this for you.

Free help in New South Wales

The NSW Small Business Commissioner offers mediation services for disputes, guidance on retail leases, and resources including mental health support and help for businesses affected by disruptions. A NSW example

A Newcastle electrical contractor needs about $200k to fund materials and wages for a large commercial fit-out before the first progress claim is paid. They ring at 9:05am, before heading to site. They’ve traded seven years, own a home in Lake Macquarie with a mortgage, and have a small ATO payment plan they’re keeping up with. The specialist maps a secured and an unsecured route and explains what each would need.

Before you ring from New South Wales

Most NSW callers can get everything they need done in one call if they have a few things ready:

  1. Your opening line: what the money is for, roughly how much, and by when. Our first-minute script shows how.
  2. Monthly deposits for the last few months, and whether your trade is seasonal.
  3. Existing business debts, including equipment finance and any ATO arrangement.
  4. Property details if you’re open to property security: suburb, owners, rough value and what’s owing.
  5. Anything awkward, such as a past default or a recent decline, in one honest sentence.

Sydney owners in particular often ask whether their home equity can be used for a business purpose. It can, as long as the loan is for the business and every owner of the property agrees and signs. If you’d rather keep the home out of it, say so upfront and the specialist will lead with unsecured options for trading businesses, typically $5,000 to $500,000.

Regional NSW owners sometimes worry that distance makes things harder. It doesn’t change how we work: every conversation is by phone, and documents are shared electronically. What matters more is describing the property and the local trading pattern clearly, so the right lenders are approached first. If you’re in a hurry, our page on tight deadlines shows how to frame the date.
